The very notion of truth is under assault today. Some folks will say there is no such thing as truth. This of course begs the question of whether or not that statement is true. When further questioned about this, the argument falls appart at every level. This “personal truth” crusade does not stand up to questions, and this fact is really the point. Don’t ask questions, just internalize whatever is deemed socially correct and say the correct words to get along in your life with the least conflict.

If a truck is headed straight for you, is it true you should step out of the way? Of course you should, this is true. It’s not your truth, or the driver’s truth; it’s just true. Everday untold millions of people drive some kind of motor vehicle somewhere. The vast majority of these trips arrive at the intended destination safely. This is a good proof that our eyes do a very good job of representing truth to us. Truth is not subjective, and the idea defies the very definition of the word itself. Do we have different views of truth, absolutely. But this is our view, not truth itself. It’s like truth is a great mountain, and if you stand on different sides of the mountain, you will describe it differently. And you can sometimes learn more about it if you listen to someone else’s description from their viewpoint. But the mountain is real, and the varied descriptions don’t change the mountain, and they don’t change the truth.

Questions questions, and more questions. Questions are a great way to explore truth, but they are often discouraged adamantly. When folks get angry at questions they very likely don’t have answers. Many times, we don’t ask questions because we want to steer away from conflict. If folks have good answers, they normally welcome questions as a great teaching moment. Like the Word of God fears no questions!
