The lie here is that we have no spiritual enemy. It’s kinda scary and we don’t like to talk about it, but we have a spiritual enemy, and we know his name. An enemy that we can’t shoot and who knows us better than we know ourselves. He can temp us in our most vulnerable ways. The enemy’s task is not tough, just make us veer off the narrow path a little bit in a way that we already want to go anyway. He will fashion teachers for us that tell us exactly what we want to hear. That’s why we need to test everything against the Word of God. Just as the Bereans did with Paul’s teachings. The Bereans studied the scriptures daily to see if what Paul was teaching them was true. We should do the same. Don’t just accept cool sounding stuff that you love to hear. Test it with the Bible. The Spirit and the Word are not in conflict. The Bible is the Sword of the Spirit. The Word of God is for us to test these spirits that come at us with stuff our itching ears want to hear. Trust God, and repent of your sins.
